Million Trees Derbyshire is a not for profit tree planting scheme, launched on 1-1-11, with an ambition to plant many thousands of trees throughout all of Derbyshire over the coming years. We will work with anyone who can support us the aim of making Derbyshire a truly green county. However, we work according to a number of principles to ensure that our activity leads to lasting benefits through the planting of trees and woodland in a truly sustainable manner.

-        We will only support the planting of the right trees in the right places.

-        We will encourage people to plant and maintain their trees to a high standard.

-        We will include all types of people and organisations.

We work in three ways to plant trees;

We have been awarded £25,000 from the Government Big Tree Plant Scheme to plant  10,000 trees by 2014. This is aimed at public or community owned land or land which is accessible to the public. In 2012/13, we hope to plant 4000 trees and we are looking for partners who have sites and can provide some matched funding, either cash or in many cases in kind funding through volunteering.

We encourage and support people to plant trees on their own land, including gardens.

We work with businesses to enable them to plant trees, whether on their own land or on other locations. Over the past two years we have received support from 11 companies who have donated over £8000 – you can see the Roll of Honour of our supporters here *(link to a separate document)

In the last planting season (November 2011 to March 2013, we planted over 2500 trees on 12 sites throughout the county. This takes the total number of trees planted since we started work to 3,361- you can see details of our planting sites here **(link to a separate document).

Million Trees Derbyshire needs your help - we can't do this alone: For longer term success, we need like-minded enthusiastic people to help spread the word, raise money and plant the trees. We want to plant trees in as many different locations in Derbyshire as possible, for example around playing fields, rugby, hockey and football pitches, schools, colleges, industrial parks, private houses, farms and pubs, in fact "anywhere that we can we will" with the land owner's permission of course.

Ideally we are looking for private landowners of any size property and businesses from the public and private sector that have room for some trees on their premises to come forward and we will plant trees for many of them free of charge.

Could your company sponsor us?  We are also looking for sponsors to help fund the tree planting scheme, with all sponsors getting excellent value for money as they can have many signs with their sponsors name on erected with the trees in many locations around Derbyshire. Please go to our sponsorship section to find out more about how you can help.
